About Us

Sacred Mycelium is rooted in transparency, education, and community.
We focus on quality over quantity. Each culture is supported by real fruiting results, documented performance, and shared feedback, with the aim of having every strain testing-backed as our research expands.

Our mission is to provide affordable, high-quality, all-in-one mushroom bags and genetics that empower people to explore, learn, and heal through mycology. Every offering supports education, research, and community, bringing transparency, symbiosis, and accessibility to the world of mushroom cultivation.

Our vision is to build a community-based nonprofit retreat that blends mycology apprenticeship with psychedelic-assisted therapy, making plant medicine affordable, accessible, and understandable. Every purchase helps bring this vision closer to life, where cultivation and consciousness meet to serve mental health and collective growth.

Jay Castro was born on February 19, 1989, right on the Aquarius–Pisces cusp. Which basically means one foot in logic, one foot in the unseen… and most days, no idea which one is driving. He grew up in Puerto Rico, raised by the ocean, good friends, and a curiosity for nature that started early. Surfing, late nights, and questioning everything were part of the lifestyle… not always appreciated by strict Christian parents in the 90s, but necessary. After taking the scenic route through “figuring life out,” he eventually earned a degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management and moved to the United States in 2016. Years in the restaurant industry showed him what he didn’t want, burnout, disconnection, and a system that rarely gives back what it takes. Mycology entered his life in 2018 as a hobby. By 2021, it was something else entirely. A calling. A practice. A mirror. Fungi became more than something to grow. They became teachers. A way to understand transformation, from waste into nourishment, from chaos into structure, from disconnection into relationship. After exploring everything from supplements to genetics, one thing became clear. This path isn’t about selling products, it’s about guiding people back into connection. Through Sacred Mycelium and Mycodose LLC, Jay focuses on making cultivation accessible, helping people grow their own, and experience that shift for themselves. The long-term vision is to build a space where mycology, community, and consciousness come together. Not to escape reality, but to understand it. Because for Jay, this isn’t business. It’s alchemy. It’s practice. It’s remembering.
